Bill Reid – Buffalo Grove Community Service Award

Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove Looking to Honor Unsung Community Heroes.

The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove is seeking nominations for the Bill Reid –Buffalo Grove Community Service Award. This special community award recognizes unsung heroes in Buffalo Grove who should receive recognition for their long-term commitment and service to Buffalo Grove, reminiscent of Bill Reid’s service to our community. The late Bill Reid, long time Village Trustee and Mr. Buffalo Grove to many, was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove who truly exemplified the spirit of an outstanding community servant. Bill once said, “I believe that life is a three-legged stool: family, service, and goodwill, it must have all three to be balanced.” Bill had perfect balance in his life and his wife, Mary Jo Reid, sums up Bill’s service legacy and commitment to Rotary: “Rotary added to the opportunity to volunteer his service not only in the community, but in his private and professional life, and on an international level as well. I hope that this spirit of volunteerism and helping others will continue among everyone. This helped Buffalo Grove in its earliest days, and continues to make it a great community.”

We need your help in identifying and nominating those very special, valuable, and long-term community contributors whose efforts have resulted in the enhancement, betterment and improvement of the Buffalo Grove community. If you know of such an individual, a business, or an organization whose outstanding volunteer efforts have been measurably involved in continuous community service endeavors of a substantial nature and duration, let us know by completing and returning a nomination form. Nomination forms can be downloaded from our website at www.BGRotary.org. Nominations must be received by June 1, 2016.

The recipient of the Bill Reid – Buffalo Grove Community Service Award will receive special recognition at a public ceremony with a presentation of recognition plaque, a $500 contribution to the charity of the award recipient’s choice (must be a qualified 501(c) (3) charitable organization and/or recognized organization) in recipient’s name, and a $500 contribution in the recipient’s name to the Rotary Foundation. Rotary is the world’s first and largest service organization whose members form a global network of business, professional, and community leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities and the world. Rotary is not a business networking organization. Rotarians focus on 'Service above Self' as a commitment toward bettering the world around them. Strong fellowship among Rotarians and meaningful humanitarian service projects characterize Rotary worldwide. Rotary International is working to eradicate polio, end poverty, and promote world peace and cultural understanding.

The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove supports many local charities and community initiatives, including hunger relief, safety programs, park improvements, Special Olympics, school programs, and student exchanges. Beyond their local efforts, its members have traveled to global service projects that include providing fresh water in Africa, development projects for schools in the Guatemalan jungle, and immunization efforts to eradicate polio in India and Nigeria.
